The Jefferson Area Falcons will challenge the Perry Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Jefferson Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Perry will be up against a hot Jefferson Area squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Falcons walked away with a 5-1 win over West Geauga on Wednesday.
Olivia Lewis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Jefferson Area got a massive performance out of Allison Hill, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. What's more, Hill posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rylee Demattia, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Perry and Geneva had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Eagles on Wednesday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by eight runs or more this season.
Perry also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Sophie Sivon gave up only one earned run on nine hits and racked up 12 Ks. Sivon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Arianna Rogers, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5. Elise Strahan was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
Perry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Jefferson Area pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Perry, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Jefferson Area has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Perry struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Jefferson Area suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Perry when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
