Starkville picks up tenth straight win at home

Recap: Starkville Yellowjackets vs. Madison Central Jaguars

On Friday, the Starkville Yellowjackets faced the Madison Central Jaguars in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Starkville took down Madison Central 64-46. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Starkville.

It was another big night for Tootie Lockett, who scored 30 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Zariyah Edwards, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.

Despite the loss, Madison Central saw an underclassman step up: Karley Robinson scored 11 points along with five assists and three steals. Robinson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Lauren Sutton was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.

Starkville pushed their record up to 16-3 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 17.7 points. As for Madison Central, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-7.

Starkville won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Callaway at 2:30 p.m. on January 13th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jahanna Wilson and Lockett. Madison Central on the road again on Friday and play against Tupelo at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Tupelo is ranked 21st, while Madison Central is ranked 22nd).
