Minden is 1-9 against Broken Bow since September of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Whippets will host the Indians at 7:00 p.m.
Minden is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 42 points last Friday, they were much more limited against Milford on Friday. They lost 35-12 to the Eagles. The Whippets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-6.
The losing side was boosted by Parker Hatch, who rushed for 139 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.7 yards per carry.
Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 3.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Caleb Schwenka for the heroic effort on defense: he. Minden's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.63 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 5.93 on average over their last five games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Broken Bow). They really took it to Holdrege for the full four quarters, racking up a 47-3 victory. The Indians have beaten the Dusters the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Dusters has come to flipping the script.
Minden better focus on containing Aidan Markham and Zachary Jackson as the pair were huge in Broken Bow's win. Markham rushed for 108 yards and one score on only nine carries, while Jackson rushed for 54 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries. The dominant performance also gave Jackson a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).
Minden's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Broken Bow, their win bumped their record up to an identical 2-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Minden has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 223.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Broken Bow struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 232.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Minden was able to grind out a solid victory over Broken Bow in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 21-14. Do the Whippets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
