Soccer Game Preview: Monterey vs. Tascosa

The Monterey Plainsmen will face off against the Tascosa Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Monterey will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

Monterey's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They won by a goal and slipped past Lubbock 1-0. Given the Plainsmen's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Westerners are ranked 544th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Monterey's one-goal win came courtesy of JT Tuttle, who's now up to 12 this season.

Meanwhile, Tascosa's contest on Friday was close up to the half, which is when they kicked things up a notch. They put the hurt on Lubbock with a sharp 5-2 victory. Considering the Rebels have won three games by more than two goals this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Tascosa has also been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-1-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those six contests. As for Monterey, their win bumped their record up to 7-0-1.

Monterey took their victory against Tascosa in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 4-1. Will Monterey repeat their success, or does Tascosa have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
