Recap: Duchesne Pioneers vs. Jersey Panthers
If the Duchesne Pioneers were feeling good off their 64-35 takedown of the DeSoto Dragons last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Duchesne was dealt a 61-31 defeat at the hands of Jersey on Thursday. Duchesne lost against Jersey in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 49-30 score last time.
Jersey was led to victory by Tessa Crawford and Meredith Gray. Crawford scored 21 points along with seven rebounds, while Gray dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Crawford has scored at least 25% of Jersey's points. Another player making a difference was Casey Kallal, who scored six points along with 13 rebounds.
Duchesne's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.0 points per game. As for Jersey, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-8.
Duchesne will be playing at home against St. Charles West at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Jersey will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Fort Zumwalt South at 3:30 p.m. on December 29th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Fort Zumwalt South is ranked 283rd in Missouri, while Jersey is ranked 277th in Illinois).
