Basketball Recap: Phillipsburg Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Phillipsburg had to start their season on the road on Monday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They lost 94-71 to the Rutgers Prep Argonauts. The Stateliners were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 59-38.

When it comes to explaining why Phillipsburg lost, don't look at Matthew Scerbo Jr.. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 13 on his way to 29 points. Scerbo Jr.'s evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Bracco, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 13 points.

Rutgers Prep's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-1.

Phillipsburg will venture away from home to square off against Gill St. Bernard's at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rutgers Prep, they will host Hillsborough at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
