Basketball Game Preview: Brush Beetdiggers vs. Yuma Outlaws

Brush is 2-8 against Yuma since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Brush Beetdiggers will challenge the Yuma Outlaws at 5:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Brush is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since March 1, 2024 on Tuesday. They were beaten by Merino 68-27. The matchup marked the Beetdiggers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Sidney Miller, who posted six points and six rebounds. Michelle Headley was another key player, putting up four points and 12 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Yuma unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 48-41 to Simla.

Brush will have to contain Bailey Nighswonger as she made an impact in Yuma's last game. She dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 boards. The dominant performance gave Nighswonger a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Taryn Sheffield, who put up 14 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Yuma smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Yuma's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Brush, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-2.

Brush was taken down by Yuma 64-23 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Brush avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
