Baseball Recap: Wyoming Valley West Comes Up Short

Wyoming Valley West fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Dallas on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mountaineers by a score of 9-8. The Spartans have struggled against the Mountaineers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Noah Fetko was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three doubles, one stolen base, and one run.

Fetko wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gunner Giza, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Wyoming Valley West's record is now 7-12. As for Dallas, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Wyoming Valley West wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 12-1 victory against Greater Nanticoke Area on the 12th. As for Dallas, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 5-3 loss against Crestwood on the 12th.
