Softball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Payson's Winning Streak

Payson dropped their record down to 19-5 on Saturday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Bear River Bears by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Lions have suffered since April 12th.

Payson saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allie Callahan, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

As for Bear River, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 19 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

On Bear River's side, Kate Wilson tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Wilson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Aubree Fry was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Bella Dougals, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Coming up, Payson will head out to square off against Uintah at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Utes have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season. As for Bear River, they will welcome Grantsville at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Bears have won three straight at home, while the Cowboys won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
