Softball Recap: Fruitvale Bobcats vs. Como-Pickton Eagles
If Fruitvale was riding high fresh off their 7-1 takedown of Martins Mill last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Fruitvale Bobcats came up short against the Como-Pickton Eagles on Tuesday, falling 15-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Bobcats in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost eight in a row.

Kyla Bain put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and 13 unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Shelby Dry was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Morghan Tull also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Fruitvale's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-6-1. As for Como-Pickton, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season.
While Fruitvale had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
