Basketball Recap: Penobscot Valley Comes Up Short

Penobscot Valley lost against Mattanawcook back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Penobscot Valley Howlers lost 67-41 to the Mattanawcook Lynx. While losing is never fun, the Howlers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Lynx are ranked fifth).

Andrew Oliver was his usual excellent self, going 8 for 14 on his way to 24 points along with six assists and five rebounds for Mattanawcook. The team also got some help courtesy of Kooper McCarthy, who went 5 of 12 en route to 11 points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Penobscot Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Mattanawcook, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 15-0.

Penobscot Valley and Greenville will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played. As for Mattanawcook, they will face off against Sumner at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Mattanawcook's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
