Recap: Southside Cardinals vs. Martin Tigers

The Southside Cardinals had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.1 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They took down Martin 36-17. 36 seems to be a good number for Southside as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Reuben Alaniz was his usual excellent self, rushing for 155 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries.

When it comes to explaining why Martin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Christopher Dillard. Despite the final result, he rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown.

Southside's win was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Cigarroa and 0-10 Winn (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 35.8% over those games). As for Martin, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Winn the next time they take the field. Martin will host Winn at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Southside will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd.
