Preview: Eldorado Eagles vs. Hamilton County Foxes
The Eldorado Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Hamilton County Foxes at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Eldorado is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Last Thursday, Eldorado was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 52-46 to Carmi-White County. While losing is never fun, Eldorado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 534th, while Carmi-White County is ranked 147th).
Hamilton County has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 28 points or more this season. They took their contest at home on Thursday with ease, bagging a 66-35 victory over Flora.
It was another big night for Rayci Phelps, who scored 29 points. The game was her seventh in a row with at least ten points. Kaylie Brake was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 3 steals.
Anna-Jonesboro's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Eldorado's loss dropped theirs to 0-3.
Eldorado won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in January, slipping by Hamilton County 49-48. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Hamilton County's Sydney Downen, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Now that she won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Eldorado to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
