Preview: LEAD Academy Panthers vs. Pearl-Cohn Firebirds
After three games on the road, LEAD Academy is heading back home. They will take on the Pearl-Cohn Firebirds at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully LEAD Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, LEAD Academy beat Riverdale 60-50.
Anthony Petway continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 27 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Darnell Seay, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Pearl-Cohn's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Beech at home and fell 72-39. While losing is never fun, Pearl-Cohn can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while Beech is ranked 49th).
LEAD Academy's victory bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Pearl-Cohn, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
LEAD Academy was taken down by Pearl-Cohn 80-53 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point LEAD Academy was down 49-19.
