Basketball Game Preview: Prairie Hawks vs. Jefferson Hawks

Prairie is 9-1 against Jefferson since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. We've got a battle between Hawks coming up. Prairie knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Jefferson likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, everything came up roses for Prairie against Washington as the squad secured a 77-38 victory. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Warriors are ranked 138th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Jefferson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 67-64 heartbreaker at the hands of Iowa City. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Hawks have suffered since December 7, 2024.

Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Prairie, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3.

Prairie took their victory against Jefferson when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 86-65. Will Prairie repeat their success, or does Jefferson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
