Softball Game Preview: El Capitan Gauchos vs. Los Banos Tigers

El Capitan is 0-5 against Los Banos since March of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Gauchos will challenge the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. El Capitan has given up an average of 14.6 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

While El Capitan is heading in to the game without a victory, things might be looking up considering their last matchup was the closest they've come to getting one. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Golden Valley. On the bright side, the ten- run performance marked the Gauchos' highest-scoring contest to date.

Amanda Tostado was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and ten unearned) runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). Those hits were her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Tostado wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gaby Sy, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and two RBI. That hit marked the first that Sy got this season.

Meanwhile, Los Banos was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Atwater, falling 13-1.

El Capitan's defeat dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Los Banos, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

El Capitan suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Los Banos when the teams last played back in March. Can the Gauchos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
