Softball Game Preview: Lake Hornets vs. Newton County Cougars

Lake is 0-3 against Newton County since February of 2024 but things could change on Friday. The Hornets will host the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Lake has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lake fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Sebastopol on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bobcats.

Meanwhile, Newton County put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Enterprise a 16-0 shutout. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.

Lexi Addy was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Addy was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Gracey Wood was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Hadley Amis was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Newton County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.

Newton County's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Lake, they now have a losing record of 2-3-1.
