Baseball Recap: Freeport Comes Up Short

Freeport extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-2 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK Hawks. The Red Devils were not able to make up for their loss to the Hawks from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Joshua Lightburn made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

As for Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, they pushed their record up to 9-7-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK's side, Josh Kim spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Sawyer Bogaty and Evan Frangas did most of the damage at the plate: Bogaty went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Frangas went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Bogaty has posted since back in May of 2024. Ryan Kurre was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK beat Freeport by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday.
