Softball Recap: Mountain Brook Takes a Loss

If Mountain Brook was riding high fresh off their 13-3 takedown of Clay-Chalkville on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Spartans fell just short of the Oxford Yellow Jackets by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday. The Spartans have struggled against the Yellow Jackets recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Mountain Brook got a good showing from Mackenzie Wedell, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Mountain Brook saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reagan Rape, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Claire Robinett was another, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base.

Mountain Brook's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 16-31. As for Oxford, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-16 record this season.

Mountain Brook wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 19-0 victory against Woodlawn on the 8th. Oxford does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
