Basketball Recap: Iowa Colony Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

Iowa Colony proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 21) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Santa Fe Indians 51-48. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 375th, while the Indians are ranked 821st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Iowa Colony to victory, but perhaps none more so than Eryn Roberts, who went 10 of 21 en route to 20 points and five rebounds. Roberts has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Rogers, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Iowa Colony smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 19 consecutive matches.

When it comes to explaining why Santa Fe lost, don't look at Hannah Doerre. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 28 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 58.3% of Santa Fe's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayven Martinez, who had five points.

Iowa Colony has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Santa Fe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

Iowa Colony didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-29 victory against Angleton on the 20th. As for Santa Fe, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 53-30 defeat against La Porte on the 20th.
