Preview: South Aiken Thoroughbreds vs. Thomson Bulldogs
Having just played yesterday, the South Aiken Thoroughbreds will jump right back in to play the Thomson Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Aiken is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
On Thursday, South Aiken lost to Josey on the road by a decisive 51-37 margin.
Despite the defeat, South Aiken saw an underclassman step up: Shamariya Jenkins scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Epps, who scored nine points.
Thomson has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 28 points or more this season. They blew past Peach County 70-30 on the road. Given Thomson's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Peach County is ranked 242nd), the result last Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Thomson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jada Kendrick, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Ty?Leishiah Latimore, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
South Aiken has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for Thomson, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
South Aiken beat Thomson 41-29 in their previous matchup back in December of 2016. Will South Aiken repeat their success, or does Thomson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
