Football Recap: Carthage Beats Pleasant Grove for Their 28th Straight Victory

It's playoff time, and Carthage had no trouble coming through when it counted. They enjoyed a cozy 34-20 win over the Pleasant Grove Hawks on Friday. The Bulldogs' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

It was another big night for Kj Edwards, who rushed for 197 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 185 rushing yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Carthage was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 253 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 152 rushing yards in eight consecutive contests.

Carthage didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Zakarian Pearley and Jd Edwrads. Carson Crawford was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making nine total tackles.

Carthage's win bumped their record up to 13-0. As for Pleasant Grove, with the defeat, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-2.

Coming up, Carthage will head out to face off against Athens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Hornets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 29.92 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Pleasant Grove does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
