Basketball Recap: Wauneta-Palisade's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wauneta-Palisade). They pulled ahead with a 47-46 photo finish over the Arapahoe Warriors on Saturday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Broncos as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Ashton Wheeler was the offensive standout of the game as he posted 19 points in addition to eight boards and six steals. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.6 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Hiett, who put up 12 points.

When it comes to explaining why Arapahoe lost, don't look at William Cacy. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 12 on his way to 20 points along with five assists and five boards. Grayson Koller was another key player, putting up eight points and ten rebounds.

Wauneta-Palisade's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Arapahoe, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Wauneta-Palisade will venture away from home to take on Dundy County-Stratton on Tuesday. Dundy County-Stratton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Wauneta-Palisade likes a good challenge. As for Arapahoe, they will host Northern Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
