Softball Game Preview: Carbondale Terriers vs. Effingham Hearts

For the second straight game, Carbondale will face off against Effingham. The Terriers are taking a road trip to face off against the Hearts at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Carbondale can't be too worried about heading out to take on Effingham: they just beat Effingham at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Terriers came out on top against the Hearts by a score of 7-3 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Terriers.

Anniston Thompson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.

At the plate, Carbondale got a big performance out of Ella Karayiannis, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Karayiannis has posted since back in April of 2024. Jasmine Martin was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Carbondale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matches.

Effingham's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 23-8. As for Carbondale, their win bumped their record up to 10-12.
