Wild, Wild West Friday night in Austin, Texas; Seven touchdown night in California; 41-game win streak snapped.

High school football fans got a good look at their version of the wild, wild West Friday night in Austin, Texas.
Austin High finally emerged a victor, 66-63, as senior Zack Smith booted an 18-yard field goal in overtime for the winning margin against Belton (Texas).

Senior quarterback Jordan Jaquez (5-9, 170) sparked the winners by completing 30 of 42 passes for 417 yards and seven touchdowns. One of the nation's premier juniors, wide receiver Cayleb Jones (6-4, 195) snared 13 passes for 178 yards and four touchdowns.

"He (Jones) made two catches that should be on ESPN," Austin coach L.D. Williams said. "It was a wild game. So many things happened. The scoreboard just kept going. We only scored three points in the overtime – it was pretty boring."

Belton senior quarterback David Ash (6-3, 215), who has committed to the University of Texas, set three school records while completing 30 of 41 passes for 446 yards and six touchdowns. He also ran for a pair of touchdowns.

"David Ash is just unreal," Williams said. "He broke about six tackles and scored (on an 8-yard run) with 1:19 left. We got the ball and scored on the last play (a two-yard plunge by Jaquez to force overtime)."

Belton coach Rodney Southern noted that his team had a two-touchdown lead three times during the marathon contest, but couldn't get enough defensive stops.

"If anyone had told me that we would score 63 points and not win, I would have told them they were crazy," he
sighed.
