Baseball Recap: Long Beach Poly Comes Up Short

Long Beach Poly was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Downey Vikings. The Jackrabbits were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Long Beach Poly got a good showing from Matthew Garcia, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Garcia has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Long Beach Poly saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Safotu, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Long Beach Poly's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Downey, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

Coming up, Long Beach Poly will challenge Roosevelt at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Downey, they will be playing at home against Paramount at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
