Baseball Recap: Six Straight Road Victories for Deerfield

Deerfield's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Parkview Vikings with a sharp 12-3 victory. With that win, the Demons brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Landon Brattlie made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 16 over 5.2 innings pitched. Those 16 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Aiden Brown and Declan Pohlman did most of the damage at the plate: Brown scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Pohlman scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Pohlman a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Bryce Eickhoff, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Deerfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Parkview only managed three hits.

Deerfield pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Parkview, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Deerfield will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
