Richmond has gone 8-2 against Hoke County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Richmond Raiders will welcome the Hoke County Bucks at 7:00 p.m. Richmond has given up an average of 11.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
On Friday, Richmond came up short against Pinecrest and fell 12-9.
Madee Pearson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Kalynn McCormick was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. She also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kinsie Lyerly, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Even though they lost, Richmond kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Hoke County made easy work of Lee County on Friday and carried off an 11-1 victory. Considering the Bucks have won three games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Niya Jones spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Shaniya Mclean, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Brianna Harrell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Hoke County's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Richmond, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Richmond hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Hoke County struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Richmond's way against Hoke County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Richmond made off with an 8-0 victory. Will Richmond repeat their success, or does Hoke County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
