Soccer Recap: Lumberton Takes a Loss

Lumberton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cape Fear Colts. While losing is never fun, Lumberton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 375th, while Cape Fear are ranked 105th).

Lumberton's goal came courtesy of Carliyah Mathis, who's now up to three this season.

Lumberton's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10-1. As for Cape Fear, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-2-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Lumberton will square off against rival Gray's Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Cape Fear is set to take on their familiar foe Purnell Swett at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
