Madison Plains is 1-9 against Greeneview since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Golden Eagles will welcome the Rams at 10:00 a.m. Madison Plains will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
The home team had won the previous six meetings between Madison Plains and Worthington Christian, and Worthington Christian kept the tradition alive. The Golden Eagles fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 6-5 on Thursday.
Brayden Evans made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Rolfe, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Greeneview had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Tigers. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by seven runs or more this season.
Lucas Reynolds and Trevor Moore did most of the damage at the plate: Reynolds earned three RBI, three runs, and one stolen base, while Moore went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Moore has posted since back in April. Andy Burkett was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Greeneview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Liberty-Salem only posted a batting average of .222.
Greeneview's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Madison Plains, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Madison Plains has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Greeneview struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Madison Plains suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Greeneview in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
