Baseball Recap: Newton's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Newton's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They never let the Flora Wolves get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Carson Barthelme made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Dominic Baltzell was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Drake Wolf, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

With the win, Newton broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-1. As for Flora, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Newton will head out on the road to face off against Mascoutah at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Flora, they will be playing at home against Lawrenceville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
