Volleyball Recap: St. James Academy Falls Short Against Ranked Saint Thomas Aquinas

St. James Academy faced Saint Thomas Aquinas in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Thunder took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Saints. If the Thunder were looking for revenge after losing 2-1 to the Saints when the teams met back in November of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

St. James Academy was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-22.

Madeline Elter paced St. James Academy's offense, picking up seven kills. Elter got some help from Ellen Dorsey and her 14 assists.

Malin Chaput was the offensive standout of the contest as she had nine digs and one assist. That's the most digs she has posted over her last ten matches.

St. James Academy's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Saint Thomas Aquinas, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-2.

Coincidentally, St. James Academy and Saint Thomas Aquinas will both be playing Blue Valley West the next time they take the court. The Thunder will host the Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Saints will play them later in the day, at 6:00 p.m.
