Basketball Recap: Green River's Undefeated Season over After Three Games

Green River came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 77-55 to the San Juan Broncos. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Broncos apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Green River lost, don't look at Jason Hernandez. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-11 on his way to 18 points. The matchup was Hernandez's third in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rolando Anguiano, who posted six points and three steals.

San Juan's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tripp Palmer, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards. Palmer is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jagger Nieves, who shot 56% from the field to rack up 14 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.

Having lost for the first time this season, Green River fell to 2-1. As for San Juan, their victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Green River will face off against Grand County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for San Juan, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Panguitch at 7:00 p.m. on December 5.
