Basketball Recap: Hemingford Starts off Right with Win over Hyannis

Hemingford had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 45-33 win over the Hyannis Longhorns on Thursday. That's more bragging rights for the Bobcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Hemingford can attribute much of their success to Anthony Haas, who went 6-for-7 en route to 15 points. The dominant performance also gave Haas a new career-high in field goal percentage (86%). Carson Haas was another key player, putting up five points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Hyannis' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Merrihew, who shot 42% from the field to rack up 12 points. Another player making a difference was Beau Rice, who went 6-for-15 on his way to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Hemingford has already played their next game, a 54-53 victory against Gordon-Rushville on the 5th. As for Hyannis, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-11 win against Banner County on the 5th.
