Baseball Recap: Three Straight Road Wins for Volunteer

Volunteer won against Claiborne last Thursday with two runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. Volunteer didn't even let Claiborne on the board, marking Volunteer's second-straight 2-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won seven in a row.

Volunteer's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Austin Williams, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Williams also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

Volunteer pushed their record up to 6-10 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Claiborne, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Volunteer will host Grainger at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Volunteer will need to watch out since Grainger has now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Claiborne, they will head out to challenge Greeneville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Greeneville's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Claiborne's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
