Softball Game Preview: Highland Hornets vs. Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars

Highland is 0-8 against Atrisco Heritage Academy since March of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. Highland has given up an average of 18.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Highland is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against St. Pius X, falling 18-0.

Meanwhile, Atrisco Heritage Academy faced Albuquerque in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Jaguars came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 8-5. The win was familiar territory for the Jaguars, who have now won four games in a row.

Melanie MacIas was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. MacIas was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Aalyiah Chavez was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Larissa Morinia was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Atrisco Heritage Academy lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March.

Atrisco Heritage Academy's record now sits at 15-5. As for Highland, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-18.

Highland suffered a grim 24-0 defeat to Atrisco Heritage Academy in their previous matchup back in March of 2020. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
