Basketball Recap: Borrego Springs Comes Up Short

Borrego Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Calexico Mission RoadRunners, falling 48-23. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the RoadRunners apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Borrego Springs lost, don't look at Melanie Urquidez. Despite the final result, he posted 14 points along with six steals and five rebounds.

Calexico Mission found their leader in freshman Luis Arevalo, who put up 15 points and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for Arevalo. Marco Falcon also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Borrego Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Calexico Mission, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-4.

Borrego Springs has already played their next match (against Julian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Calexico Mission will look to defend their home court on Thursday against West Shores at 4:00 p.m.
