Basketball Recap: Crystal River Skates Past Central with Ease

Crystal River won the last time they faced Central and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Crystal River Pirates blew past the Central Bears 52-14. The Pirates pushed the score to 50-14 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bears had no chance of recovering from.

Crystal River's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Keyrra Ruiz led the charge by going 6 of 10 on her way to 16 points. Ruiz has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Aidian Cordero Santana was another key player, going 6 for 8 on her way to 15 points.

Crystal River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

Despite the defeat, Central saw an underclassman step up: freshman Zaniyah Miodowski posted six points.

Crystal River's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Central, they dropped their record down to 2-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Crystal River will venture away from home to square off against Lake Weir at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Crystal River is facing Lake Weir at the right time seeing as Lake Weir is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Central, they will host Angeline Academy of Innovation at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
