Soccer Game Preview: Kennedy vs. Bakersfield Christian

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Kennedy face off against the Bakersfield Christian at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday... Kennedy's last four matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Kennedy will bounce into Saturday's game after beating Chavez, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Kennedy had just enough and edged Chavez out 2-1 on Thursday. The score was all tied up 1-1 at the break, but the Thunderbirds were the better team in the second half.

Adrian Sanchez and Diego Marin scored both of Kennedy's goals, which were season-firsts for both players.

Meanwhile, Bakersfield Christian has been on a difficult stretch since their win on December 20. They and Bakersfield finished up on equal footing with a 0-0 draw on Thursday. The outcome might've been different if Travis Bloemhof hadn't been hit with a yellow card, which no doubt limited his ability to make aggressive plays down the stretch.

Kennedy's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2-2 and their overall record up to 4-3-3. With that draw, Bakersfield Christian's record moves to 2-8-2.

Kennedy skirted past Bakersfield Christian 2-1 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Does Kennedy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bakersfield Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
