League recap: Clemons races to league-leading run for Central

Central's DaQuan Clemons rumbled for the longest rushing play in AA this season in his game against Longmeadow last week. Clemons ran for 51 yards on the play and finished with 107 on the day as his team topped the Lancers.

Longmeadow moved up to 121 from 148 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Lancers climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Central 19-7.

Valdamar Brower's team's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cody Williams threw for 202 and 2 touchdowns and Troy Morrow had 101 yards receiving. On the ground Williams contributed 118 yards. Ju'an Williams helped Central's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 96 yards.

Williams was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 118 yards as the Golden Eagles beat Longmeadow. Teammate Clemons added to the ground attack by rushing for 107 yards.

Central's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Golden Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Williams has thrown for 851 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Malik Johnson has 12 catches for 278 yards. Williams also leads the league in rushing with 254 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Westfield takes on the Lancers. The Bombers are in first place, while Longmeadow is in sixth place.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Minnechaug Regional takes on Central. The Falcons have allowed 67 points this season, while the Golden Eagles have given up 38. Minnechaug Regional allowed 13 points last week as it fell to Westfield.

Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Bill Moore's team beat Steve Allosso's team 13-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Bombers.
