Softball Recap: Hollins' Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Hollins entered their tilt with Boca Ciega on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Pirates. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Royals also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Shayla Query was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Hailey Mercado and Gianna Close did most of the damage at the plate: Mercado scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Close went 2-for-4 with four RBI. That's the most RBI Close has posted since back in April of 2024. Ava Vargas was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Hollins hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Hollins now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Boca Ciega, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hollins will host St. Petersburg at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Boca Ciega, they will welcome St. Petersburg Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates are facing the Barons at the right time seeing as the Barons are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
