Softball Recap: Mankato East Beats Owatonna for Their Ninth Straight Win

Mankato East strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against the Owatonna Huskies as they made off with a 9-3 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Cougars have posted against the Huskies since May 8, 2017.

Kylinn Stangl made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Maddeline Beaty was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was Emily Hacker, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Mankato East's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Owatonna, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Looking ahead, Mankato East is taking a road trip to challenge Maple Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Owatonna, they will host Century at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
