Football Recap: Fairfield Falcons vs. Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran Cadets
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Fairfield had no problem doing just that on Friday. They strolled past the Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran Cadets with points to spare, taking the game 48-34. The victory was familiar territory for the Falcons who have now won three contests in a row.
It was another big night for Breckan Maran, who rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 137 rushing yards. Blake Metzger also helped out as he racked up 100 rushing yards.
Fairfield was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 365 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matchups.
Fairfield wouldn't let Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Hunter Kauffman was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance.
Several Cadets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Avery Cook, who picked up 136 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Jack Belschner also helped out as he racked up 122 receiving yards.
The win got Fairfield back to even at 5-5. As for Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Fairfield will square off against West Noble at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Noble knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Fairfield likes a good challenge. Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
