Recap: Calvary Baptist Academy Patriots vs. Covenant Eagles
The Calvary Baptist Academy Patriots fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Covenant Eagles on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 55-53. Calvary Baptist Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Covenant apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Calvary Baptist Academy had strong showings from Matthew DeGroff, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 19 rebounds, and James DeGroff, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and five steals. DeGroff continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Calvary Baptist Academy's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Covenant, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Calvary Baptist Academy will head out on the road to face off against Mount Hope Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Mount Hope Christian Academy is ranked 97th, while Calvary Baptist Academy is ranked 87th). As for Covenant, they will be playing at home against Teays Valley Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Teays Valley Christian is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
