Michael Porter Jr. has been
installed as the top basketball prospect in the Class of 2017 by 247Sports Director of Scouting Jerry Meyer.
The 6-foot-9, 210-pound small forward helped
Father Tolton (Columbia) win a state title in Missouri last season but is headed to
Nathan Hale (Seattle) for his senior year. His father took a job on the staff at Washington under Lorenzo Romar in May.
Last week at the Peach Jam in South Carolina, Porter shared MVP honors with teammate
Trae Young as MoKan Elite ran the table (7-0) en route to the title. The Wichita-based club thrashed the PSA Cardinals of New York City 93-65 in the final.

Porter averaged 26.4 points and 11.4 rebounds per game at the event including 33 in the championship game victory.
"Having watched him over the past couple years on the Nike circuit and at various camps, Porter has always been a potential candidate for the No. 1 spot in 2017," Meyer said of Porter. "This spring he emerged in my mind as the top talent in the class. Then at the Nike Peach Jam this past week, he solidified himself as the No. 1 player in the Top247."
Washington is considered the leader in Porter's recruitment and younger brother
Jontay, a 6-9 class of 2018 forward, is already committed to the Huskies.
In another bit of Porter news, he was named to USA Basketball's U18 team Tuesday. The Shaka Smart-led roster will compete in Chile later this month.
