Basketball Recap: Juanita Sanchez Complex Comes Up Short

Juanita Sanchez Complex was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a blow against the Portsmouth Patriots, falling 56-27. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Patriots are ranked ninth).

Portsmouth got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Annie Hurd out in front who posted 11 points along with six boards and three steals. Hurd continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gyselle Mairs, who put up 13 points and three steals.

Juanita Sanchez Complex's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Portsmouth, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Juanita Sanchez Complex will host Cranston West at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Juanita Sanchez Complex is facing Cranston West at the right time seeing as Cranston West is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Portsmouth, they will challenge South Kingstown at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. South Kingstown has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
