Preview: Kearney Catholic Stars vs. Aurora Huskies
Kearney Catholic has been on the road for two straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Aurora Huskies at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Kearney Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Kearney Catholic was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 42-38 to Holdrege.
Callie Squiers put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Hadley Mcgowen was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Aurora entered their tilt with Hastings with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Aurora walked away with a 51-43 win over Hastings last Tuesday.
It was another big night for Denae Nachtigal, who scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Fahrnbruch, who scored 15 points.
Kearney Catholic has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season. As for Aurora, they pushed their record up to 7-6 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Kearney Catholic have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 25.4 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Aurora, though, as they've been averaging only 27.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Kearney Catholic strolled past Aurora when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 42-24. Will Kearney Catholic repeat their success, or does Aurora have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
