Basketball Game Preview: Sierra Vista Mountain Lions vs. Rancho Rams

The Sierra Vista Mountain Lions will take on the Rancho Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sierra Vista is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.6 points per game this season.

Sierra Vista is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since January 12, 2024 on Saturday. They had just enough and edged Elko out 46-44. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mountain Lions.

It was another big night for Donnayja Gibson, who posted 25 points. That makes it seven consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Sierra Vista's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Silvas, who had ten points.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Rancho against Clark on Monday as the squad secured a 50-23 victory.

Rancho had a senior duo take command as Claudia Vargas-Arellano went 12 of 22 on her way to 26 points along with seven rebounds and three steals and Taylor Dagons dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vargas-Arellano has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Crystal Moscosa, who put up two points and seven rebounds.

Rancho smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive games.

Rancho's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Sierra Vista, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Sierra Vista beat Rancho 61-54 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Does Sierra Vista have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rancho turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
