Baseball Recap: Harker Heights Beats Temple for Their Third Straight Win

Harker Heights won against Shoemaker on Tuesday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Knights beat the Temple Wildcats by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-2. Considering the Knights have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Cooper Reaves was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gian Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Seth Martin was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

The win was the third in a row for Harker Heights, bringing their record up to 17-6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Temple, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-19-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Harker Heights will challenge rival Midway at 7:00 p.m. on the 25th. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 2.8, the Panthers 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Temple is set to square off against their familiar foe Shoemaker at 7:00 p.m. on the 25th.
