Southwest Prairie recap October 22, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Romeoville, who defeated 97th ranked Oswego East, 21-14.
Oswego was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in Southwest Prairie. Earlier in the week, the Panthers triumphed over Plainfield South 35-28.
Mark Tomac-Geers was a key player and the best on defense this week as Minooka beat Plainfield North. The 6-foot-8 defensive lineman grabbed 2 sacks.
Jacob Czerniakowski was a passing and rushing force as the Indians defeated the Tigers. He completed 7 passes for 110 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 40 yards. Czerniakowski's key target this week was Anthony Corrado, who caught 3 passes for 46 yards.
Tyler Walsh was the best wideout in the league this week as Oswego bested the Cougars. Walsh racked up 2 receptions for 90 yards. Zach West helped Oswego's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 41 yards.
On the heels of Steven Frank and Walsh, Brian Cooney's team has had great success on offense. Frank leads the league in passing with 1,580 yards, while Walsh has rushed for 839 yards this season. The Spartans' Charles Hunter leads the league in receiving yards with 626 on 34 catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Plainfield East takes on Plainfield South. As it stands, the Bengals are in first, while Ken Bublitz's team is in third.
Romeoville moved up to 127 from 160 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Southwest Prairie. Jeff Kuna's team climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Wolves 21-14.
